Holiday baking is never complete without a batch of traditional sugar cookies.

This easy recipe is fun to make with the kids (especially the decorating)!

WHAT YOU NEED

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 egg

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 cups all-purpose flour

HOW TO MAKE THEM

Cream butter and sugar in a mixer; add vanilla and egg.

In a separate bowl, combine baking powder, salt and flour.

Add flour mixture to butter mixture and combine.

Transfer dough to a floured surface and roll out like you would a pie crust.

Cut with cookie cutter, bake at 350 degrees for about 6-8 minutes until edges are golden.

You can ice them with butter cream (click here for recipe) if you are going for that soft, rich store-bought cookie we all love.

You can also buy store-bought icing pens for your kids to have fun with!

I personally like a simple glaze to dip mine in.

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT

2 cups powdered sugar in a bowl; add one teaspoon vanilla and 2 tablespoons heavy cream.

Continue adding in cream and mixing until it has the consistency you want. (I prefer mine thick.)

You can add in food coloring at this point and top with sprinkles!

These are Santa's favorite!
