The Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo is adding something new to this year’s exciting slate of events: A ranch rodeo.

Forty 4-person teams will compete in ranch sorting, maverick branding, stray gathering, wild cow milking and ranch bronc riding with $30,000, trophy belt buckles, engraved rifles and a trophy saddle all up for grabs.

“Teams are already full and there is a waiting list,” Casey Hammons, vice president of the Cowboy Capital Pro Rodeo Association, told Beneath the Surface News.

“Unlike traditional rodeo where it’s an individual sport, ranch rodeo is a team aspect and the whole group absolutely has to work together to get the job done in the most efficient, fastest, successful way possible.

“They are doing the ‘cowboy things’ that they do daily on ranches that most people never get to see from a spectator standpoint.”

The Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo will be held Sept. 26-28 at The Fairgrounds Arena.

The Ranch Rodeo will take place at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, with the finals beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Tickets to the Ranch Rodeo are $15 and will only be sold at the gate.
