Tarleton State University President James Hurley and Stephenville Mayor Doug Svien have announced the establishment of the Town and Gown Alliance aimed at fostering a strong partnership and communication between the university and city.

The formation of the alliance is driven by the recognition that there is mutual benefit to a collaborative approach that addresses challenges, leverages resources and achieves common goals for the university and community.

“Tarleton State and the city of Stephenville have always had a great relationship. This alliance codifies it to create a long-standing collaboration for years to come,” said Hurley. “I’m thankful to Mayor Doug Svien, the Stephenville City Council and members of this community who have made this possible.

“We are fortunate to live and serve in a community that embraces growth and opportunity. Tarleton has been on the rise for a long time, and I’m thankful to have the support of our city.”

The alliance was signed into effect on Dec. 13 at Stephenville City Hall.

“I am thrilled to have this agreement in place. The city of Stephenville and the university have a rich history of success, and I know that with this partnership in place, the best is yet to come,” Svien said.

“The university is an integral part of what makes Stephenville a special place to call home.”
