The Tarleton State University Texan Corps of Cadets is presenting “True Grit Veterans Appreciation Rodeo,” a military appreciation rodeo to show recognition for military servicemen.
The event is hosted in collaboration with the Tarleton’s rodeo team and will be held on Friday, Nov. 19, at Tarleton’s rodeo complex, located at 13635 FM 3025 in Stephenville.
“This is an opportunity for the ROTC program and the TSU rodeo team to come together to honor those who put themselves in place to protect our freedom. With our veterans-all gave some, some gave all. With this rodeo, we are able to honor all who have sacrificed a part of their lives,” said event coordinator Jacee Halliday.
Proceeds will benefit the Erath County Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tarleton Texan Corps of Cadets and the Tarleton’s rodeo team.
Captain Kyle Murphy cited the event as an opportunity to honor all servicemen and women.
“This rodeo is an excellent opportunity to experience the cowboy traditions and the military lineage that no other county on earth can boast," Murphy said. "Come support the cowboys, cowgirls and cadets as we celebrate our freedoms and give thanks to the veterans who bought these freedoms with seat and blood.”
Events will include timed events of calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, pole bending and goat tying. Roughstock events will include bareback riding, saddlebronc riding and bull riding.
The rodeo will be an open format, allowing anyone to enter.
Competition rules will follow National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Rules. Entries can be found on the True Grit Rodeo Facebook page.
The rodeo will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is free for military service members and veterans; all others will be $5.
