Tarleton chapter of American Red Cross to install free smoke alarms; here’s how to sign up.

The Tarleton State University chapter of the American Red Cross is taking part in the Sound the Alarm program to install free smoke alarms in homes of Stephenville residents on Thursday, March 23.

All you have to do to have up to two smoke alarms installed inside your home is register here.

“House fires claim seven lives per day and ARC provides disaster relief services to families who have lost their homes due to fire,” advisor Dr. Trina Geye told Beneath the Surface News. “However, we’d like to provide support and resources before a tragedy happens, which is why we have the Sound the Alarm program.

“Through this initiative, American Red Cross volunteers install smoke alarms with 10-year batteries in homes at no charge.”

The project is part of Tarleton’s annual Service-Learning Day.

“We will set up a staging area on campus where students will be provided with alarms, fire safety information, power tools and assigned routes,” Dr. Geye said. “Our goal is to spend the day installing as many alarms as we can on the 23rd, but we will have subsequent installation days or make individual arrangements if we have more than we can get to.”
