Studio 6:14 now offering private ballroom dance lessons.
Austrian writer Vicki Baum once said, “There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.”
Studio 6:14 Dance and Performing Arts in Stephenville has partnered with Jay Hunter, owner of Shall We Dance, to offer kids and couples lessons in ballroom dancing.
The private lessons will be offered during the weekdays and on weekends.
“The dancers will have the opportunity to participate in our recitals, so they will be our students as well,” Studio 6:14 owner Brittany Thurman told Beneath the Surface News.
Ballroom dance students will begin with a 50-minute introductory lesson for $30.
“There is absolutely no obligation to do anything past that point if they choose not to,” Jay said. “This is a chance to try it out and see if it’s something they will enjoy, and it gives me an opportunity to find out how they learn.”
If enough students take part, Jay said he hopes to add group classes this summer and fall.
Jay has been a full-time dance instructor for 51 years.
He owned a dance studio in Tampa Bay, Florida for 43 years before selling it and moving to Texas to help a friend open a dance academy.
When asked what advice he would give to those intimidated by the thought of taking ballroom lessons, he said, “Most of the people who are intimidated are men, and I tell them that I will not allow them to look stupid on the dance floor, and they usually just smile and say I’ve got myself another student.”
