Stephenville resident Julie Brinkley has been selected to march in the opening ceremony of the New York City Marathon.
The Parade of Nations will be held on Friday, Oct. 31, in Central Park prior to the NYC Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 2.
Julie, founder of the Stephenville Running Club and regular cooking contributor on Beneath the Surface News, is one of only 50 Americans chosen to participate in the Parade of Nations.
“I am extremely proud of all the things it represents for me,” she said. “And it sets the expectations to dream big for our club runners.”
The NYC Marathon is held every year on the first Sunday in November and is one of seven World Marathon Majors.
The other six include Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and Sydney.
This is Julie’s sixth marathon and third major after running Chicago and Berlin.
She said the chance to run in NYC is a dream come true.
“I get to show people what can happen when you just believe in yourself,” Julie said.
“I mean, who would have thought? I just started running in 2012 and now I run with elite runners. How cool is that?
“This is an experience I can’t wait to tell my grandkids about some day.”
