The Texas State Historical Association will give a virtual presentation on outlaw legends during “Texas Talks” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Admission is free for TSHA members and $5 for the public. Click here to make a reservation.

Dr. Kristina Downs, executive director of the Texas Folklore Society and assistant professor of English at Tarleton, will discuss that while outlaw legends are not unique to Texas, the Lone Star State does have an unusually high number of them.

The season-opening talk will explore common themes among outlaw legends, including social banditry and faked deaths.

It will consider how Texas history and folklore have given the state’s legends their particular flavor.
