Students at Gilbert Intermediate jumped headfirst into the effort to raise money for Erath County’s third annual “Shop with a Cop,” a program aimed at giving local at-risk youth a merry Christmas.

Led by Gilbert’s student council, the school donated $750 to the effort on Wednesday.

“We were so blessed today by the students of Gilbert Intermediate and the Gilbert Student Council when they presented us with a check for $750,” Stephenville Police Chief Dan Harris told Beneath the Surface News. “These beautiful young hearts, led by Mrs. Stanfield, are our amazing future leaders and their fundraising efforts for this great cause make us so grateful and proud.

This year’s Shop with the Cop program will start bright and early on Thursday, Dec. 22, when kids will be treated to breakfast with a cop at The Purple Goat. They will then head to Walmart (with lights and sirens) for a Christmas shopping spree.

You can make a donation to Shop with a Cop in any amount at First Financial Bank, Texas Department of Public Safety, Stephenville Police Department, Dublin Police Department and Erath County Sheriff’s Office.
