‘Shop with a Cop’ and make a child smile this holiday season. (You will love this.)
Erath County law enforcement agencies are wasting no time getting into the holiday spirit.
The agencies are working together to raise money for a program called “Shop with a Cop” that will help local at-risk youth have an extra merry Christmas.
DPS Sgt. Nick Duecker is the man behind the program. He told Beneath the Surface News that he learned about something similar in another Texas county and “ran with it.”
Duecker said local agencies will work with schools to identify the kids, and on Dec. 21, they will enjoy breakfast with a cop, then be escorted to Walmart with lights and sirens to pick out clothes, shoes and a toy.
“We have set a goal of sponsoring 20 kids, so we need about $3,000 to do that,” Duecker said. “We hope to raise a little more to cover breakfast.”
You can sponsor a child for $150 or make a donation in any amount at First Financial Bank, Texas Department of Public Safety, Stephenville Police Department, Dublin Police Department and Erath County Sheriff’s Office.
Dublin Police Chief Cameron Ray said his department is looking forward to participating in such a worthwhile event.
“This event will provide resources to many of our kids that normally wouldn’t be afforded this opportunity,” Ray said. “And it will strengthen the bond between our youth and local law enforcement.”
