One of this week’s featured pets up for adoption at the Erath County Humane Society is Hickory, a one-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix with a big heart and lots of puppy energy.

“This adorable girl came to us with her siblings through no fault of her own and now she's ready to find a family,” ECHS executive director Serena Wright told Beneath the Surface News.

“Hickory is a happy, playful pup who loves romping around with her dog friends and then crashing for a well-earned nap.

“She does well with other dogs, but we recommend a doggy meet and greet to make sure it's the perfect match.

"Her experience with cats, kids, strangers, livestock and grooming is currently unknown, so slow and thoughtful introductions will be important.”

Like most young dogs, Hickory is still learning the ropes.

She may be partially housebroken, but will need regular potty breaks and a consistent routine.

She hasn't had formal training yet, so she's looking for a patient, committed family ready to guide her with structure and love.

“When she gets bored, she can be a bit of a chewer - so enrichment supervision, and appropriate toys will be key to her success,” Serena said.

“She is also a bit of an adventurer and has shown she can climb a chain-link fence, so a secure fencing setup is a must to keep her safe.”

Hickory is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed.

Nacho Fries is a beautiful one to three-year-old domestic longhair tortoiseshell that arrived at the shelter as a stray.

“She came to us as a stray with her daughter, Doritos Locos Taco,” Serena said.

“Sadly, no one came looking for them - but this sweet mama is more than ready to find a forever home where she can finally relax and be cherished.”

Nacho Fries is a gentle, loving girl who enjoys the simple things in life like a cozy bed, soft head pets and a calm space to unwind.

“The second you reach out to pet her, she starts purring to show her appreciation,” Serena said.

“While she's not a fan of being picked up, she's happiest staying close by your side and soaking up attention on her own terms."

Nacho Fries is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and finishing her deworming treatment.

  • Managing pet hair can feel impossible at times, but reading your post gave me hope. Fortunata Mini Jacks & Jennys are such a smart addition for anyone with furry friends. I especially appreciate tips on vacuums like the Levoit LVAC-200 for daily cleanups. Combining effective tools with these mini accessories makes maintaining a clean, fur-free space much simpler and keeps pets happy at the same time.
