Pickers and Poets will kick off the new year with two of Texas’ finest musicians.
Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines will join host Craig Clifford in a song swap from 4-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Chapel on the Bosque.
There is no cover and free refreshments (including craft beer) and snacks will be served.
"I can't think of anyone I enjoy sharing the stage with more than those two," Clifford said.
"Terri's songs are great and having her join in on my songs on harmonica and Lloyd on dobro and guitar really adds something special."
MORE ON THE MUSICIANS
Terri Hendrix has run an independent record label since 1996, releasing all of her music through her own e-commerce store. Her music has been used in independent films, commercials, and various other formats.
Bryan T. Atkinson says of her songwriting in his essay in Pickers and Poets: The Ruthlessly Poetic Singer-Songwriters of Texas:
“The San Antonio native’s a vibrant and vital songwriter, both challenging and compassionate and ceaselessly cornered by her own imagination.
“She’s fiercely independent, a visionary do-it-yourself artist and unwavering creative life force. Hendrix simply handles curveballs gracefully.
“Her lyrics deliver lessons learned beneath thunderclouds. Her lines shine with endless empathy. She fills pages with unassumingly elegant lines like “Kiss the evening sky and say, ‘Bye, bye, bye’/ Tomorrow knows no sorrow like today.”
Lloyd Maines is an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy award-winning producer and musician.
Best known as a pedal steel player, Maines is a multi-instrumentalist who has also performed and recorded playing dobro, electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin, lap steel guitar, banjo and bell tree.
He toured and recorded as a member of the Joe Ely Band and has also played with Jerry Jeff Walker, Guy Clark, Butch Hancock, Terry Allen, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Golden Bear.
"Natalie Maines of the Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks) is lucky enough to be his daughter," Clifford said.
