Three hours after an Erath County Jail inmate escaped from the recreation yard at 10:58 a.m. Monday, the suspect was back behind bars and facing new charges.

Treston Cane Nolte was recaptured around 2 p.m. near the head of the Bosque River Trail in Stephenville.

“Several agencies found him near the river,” Chief Deputy Tye Box told Beneath the Surface News.

Box said Nolte is an inmate from Coryell County who is being temporarily held in Erath County.

“We sometimes house inmates here when other jails run out of room,” Box said.

Box said Nolte was taken into custody peacefully.

He would not comment on how he escaped from the rec yard, citing the ongoing investigation.

The hunt for a suspect who escaped custody from the Erath County Sheriff’s Office remains ongoing.

Thirty-three -year-old Treston Cane Nolte reportedly escaped at 10:58 a.m. Monday while being booked into the Erath County Jail on a warrant, a source initially told Beneath the Surface News.

Chief Deputy Tye Box said that the search for him remains ongoing as of 1:50 p.m. Monday.

“We currently have several area agencies on the ground actively searching for him, including a helicopter and tracking dogs,” Box said.

Nolte is 6’ tall, weighs 175 pounds, has brown eyes and blonde/strawberry hair.

He was last seen wearing orange jail shorts and orange jail shoes.

This isn’t the first time Nolte has escaped from custody.

In June, he escaped while in custody of the Gatesville Police Department and later turned himself in.

According to his Facebook page, Nolte is single and lives in Gatesville.
