The first week of filings for Stephenville City Council and SISD board of trustees was relatively slow, but things have picked up slightly with a second candidate filing to run for school board.

Luke Sims has filed to run for place 4, currently held by board president Dr. Ann Calahan, who is not seeking another term.

In a Facebook post, Sims announced, “The decision to run for a position on the SISD School Board is a decision that doesn’t come lightly. My family and I have put many hours of discussion into this decision and we can’t be more proud of our announcement.”

Matt Miller filed last week to run for place 5, currently held by Dr. Ed Dittfurth who has also decided not to seek re-election.

STEPHENVILLE CITY COUNCIL

Here’s what’s happened so far: Stephenville Mayor Doug Svien and councilman Justin Haschke have both filed for re-election.

Councilman Brandon Huckabee is out, focusing on his bid for Erath County judge.

Former city councilman Mark McClinton has filed to run for Huckabee’s place.

No word yet on Brady Pendleton or Alan Nix’s plans to seek another term.

The filing period for the May 7 election ends Friday, Feb. 18.

The last day to register to vote is Thursday, April 7.
