Love is in the air: What to buy and where to celebrate with your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day.

Updated: Feb 6, 2023

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you don’t want to be caught empty-handed or without a nice place to take your sweetheart on Feb. 14.

To ensure your celebration is a lovely one, I rounded up some fantastic ideas that will earn you a few extra hearts during this season of love. (And you can find them all in Erath County.)

WHERE TO BUY FLOWERS

Scott’s Flowers: This iconic storefront located on the Erath County courthouse square, will celebrate 50 years of business this year.

Co-owner James Kimbel told Beneath the Surface News that Scott’s has 2,000 roses ordered for Valentine’s Day and a wide variety of other seasonal beauties that will make your sweetheart swoon.

Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday this year and James recommends placing orders for flowers days ahead of time to ensure delivery.

“We are expecting a shipment of handmade chocolates from The Sweet Shop, a Texas-based chocolatier that we have worked with for decades,” James said. “We are also stocked with lush animals and blooming plants fresh from the greenhouse.”

WHERE TO DINE

Newton’s Cellar: Make a reservation for dinner at this downtown Stephenville hotspot and enjoy a four-course dinner that includes lobster consume, spinach salad with strawberries, goat cheese, bourbon candied pecans and balsamic vinaigrette, pan-seared filet with lobster bearnaise, roasted fingerling potatoes and a fresh vegetable.

The evening will end with a champagne toast and chocolate dessert.

Tickets can be purchased here for $128.75 each.

WHERE TO CELEBRATE WITH YOUR BESTIES

LUCKY VINES VINEYARD AND WINERY: If your Valentine’s Day includes a celebratory toast (and it should), you’re in luck.

This local vineyard is hosting a two-day celebration beginning with Galentine’s Day from 1-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10.

Bring your besties and enjoy all-day giveaways, sugar and icing-rimmed Cordelia specials, sweet treat boards and karaoke from 6-8 p.m.

All-day specials will continue Saturday, with music by Holli Garet from 4-7 p.m., food trucks and more!

Secure a spot in the tasting room by making an online reservation here.

WHERE TO SHOP

Venture 19: Just when you thought this amazing boutique couldn’t get any cuter, it does.

A slew of new shipments means a freshly-stocked inventory that includes a wide selection of BuDhaGirl bangles in all the latest styles and colors. (What I love most about these stylish bracelets is that you can wear them in the water.)

You will also find designer-inspired trays I am madly in love with. Think Tom Ford, Chanel, Prada as well as orange Veuve Clicquot plastic champagne glasses (perfect for poolside cocktails) and Hermes coasters.

With all this love in the air, you’ll want to dress the part so pick up a hot pink “Heartbreaker” T-shirt or pink “Champagne please” sweater with matching heart-shaped earrings.

Frames Etc: This downtown boutique has an eclectic selection of gift ideas like Simplified soaps and lotions and romantic candles.

But this time of year, owner Julie Lowrance specializes in something else: Gift baskets.

Think Wiseman House Chocolates, candy, popcorn, socks, jewelry and so much more.

Gift baskets can be made for men and women and start at $25.

The Home Place at Ace: This newly-revamped store attached to Ace Hardware has everything you need to transfer your home into a showstopper.

Think gorgeous dishes in an array of colors (including pink), high-end dinnerware and serving pieces and every kitchen gadget you can imagine.

You’ll also find lamps, candles, jewelry, picture frames and all the pretty things you’ve ever dreamed about.

Walk right next door and get the man in your life something that will make him smile on Valentine’s Day.

Ace Hardware carries Traeger Timberline Pellet Grills, outdoor heaters, Yeti products and all kinds of manly power tools.

Cheerful Heart: If your sweetheart prefers gifts that are shiny and stylish, head to Cheerful Heart where you will find an array of earrings, bracelets and necklaces by Kendra Scott.

The spacious boutique also carries home décor, Mud Pie dishes (including an adorable segmented ceramic charcuterie platter I’m in love with), clothing and snuggly Vera Bradley robes that are 50 percent off!

A few other of my favorite things at Cheerful Heart include heart-shaped key rings that say “Wonderful Mom” and “Hello Beautiful” with matching credit card holders.

Remember: Shop local. And shop often.

And cheers to the happiest Valentine’s Day ever!
