Lonn Reisman files to run for place 3 on the Stephenville City Council.

Lonn Reisman

One of the most recognizable names at Tarleton State University is taking on a new challenge in city politics.

Lonn Reisman, Tarleton’s former head basketball coach and current vice president and athletic director, filed Wednesday to run for place 3 on the Stephenville City Council.

I spoke with Lonn by telephone Wednesday morning and he talked about his decision to run for office.

“I love Stephenville,” he said. “It’s a really special place full of tradition and family ideals, which is why I have stayed all these years.

“This is where I chose to raise my family.”

Place 3 was recently vacated when Daron Trussell resigned to become the new director of the city’s Parks and Leisure Services.

The person elected on Nov. 8 to fill Trussell’s unexpired term will serve through May 2023.

“Stephenville is already going in the right direction and I want to do my part to keep this community moving forward and being prosperous,” Lonn said.

The deadline to file for place 3 is Aug. 25.
