Local students launch community ‘treat map’ for families looking for traditional Halloween fun.
The community is invited to take part in a fun, new way to trick-or-treat.
Seventh grade students at Huckabay ISD have launched a treat map to bring back traditional Halloween fun to Erath and surrounding counties.
After discussing a decline in traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, the class decided to use technology to bridge the gap between residents eager to hand out candy and families looking for safe, active trick-or-treat routes.

HOW THE MAP WORKS
For treat providers: Anyone planning to hand out candy can visit treatmap.org to drop an anonymous pin.
Residents can detail their participating dates, active time windows, types of treats and whether they have special decorations.
For families: Trick-or-treaters can enter their location to view nearby stops, get driving directions and plan a custom neighborhood route.
The platform is completely anonymous; no personal names are attached to any addresses.
The goal is to restore the joy of Halloween for residents who miss seeing costumes, while giving parents an easy way to offer their kids the classic neighborhood trick-or-treating experience.
If successful, the class plans to expand the project into a Christmas Lights Map this December.
