Local chemist shares new skincare products she’s using this fall.

This is part four in the science-backed fall reset series with Chemistry Cachet.
Fall in Texas is a little unpredictable. We can have an 85-degree afternoon followed by a cool, dry morning, and those changes can start showing up on our skin.
As a chemist and busy mom approaching 40, I’m always testing new skincare products, but I’m not interested in using something simply because it is trending online.
I look at the active ingredients, what they are designed to do, and whether the product actually serves a purpose in my routine.
I’ve been testing several new products since spring, and these are a few of the more unique additions I’m keeping around this fall.
For the exact products I am using, you can find the list here.
For detailed science behind these ingredients, you can read our full fall skincare guide here.
And for those who love seeing videos of skincare routines, check out this video of each product being applied.
20-minute collagen mask
This Bio-Collagen Radiance Facial Mask has become one of my favorites when my skin looks dull or dehydrated.
It contains glycerin, cica, astaxanthin and a ceramide complex to support hydration and the skin barrier.
One important chemistry note: topical collagen doesn’t magically replace the collagen underneath your skin. Its more immediate benefit is helping hydrate and condition the surface, which can make skin appear smoother and plumper.
A peptide serum for extra hydration
Another product I’ve been testing is the Deep Collagen Silk Peptide Intensive Ampoule serum.
This Korean serum combines collagen ingredients with peptides and gives my skin a silky, hydrated finish without feeling overly heavy. Peptides are particularly interesting in skincare because certain types can help support smoother and firmer-looking skin with consistent use.
Retinol for the neck
One area we often forget about is the neck and décolleté.
I’ve been using this Collagen Retinol Refining Gua Sha Cream, which combines retinol, collagen and peptides with a built-in massage applicator.
The most unique product: forehead patches
One of my more interesting finds has been PDRN Forehead Wrinkle Patches.
These hydrogel patches contain encapsulated retinol, PDRN, collagen and peptides. The occlusive patch also holds moisture against the skin, which can temporarily soften the appearance of lines.
PDRN is getting plenty of attention in skincare right now, but research on topical use is still developing.
I look at these primarily as targeted hydration treatments.
Red light mask
I’ve also added the Wavytalk Glow Time LED Therapy Mask to my routine for about 10–15 minutes at a time.
Red-light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light and may help support the appearance of aging skin and inflammation when used consistently.
At-home devices aren’t as powerful as professional treatments, but I have seen fantastic benefits using this mask every day.
My chemist rule for fall skincare
You don’t need ten new products just because the season changed.
My biggest advice as a chemist is to avoid using dozens of products and trendy items you see online which can be too harsh for your skin causing breakouts and actually hindering how well the products work.
As Texas weather becomes cooler and drier, focus on ingredients that have a purpose: supporting your skin barrier, maintaining hydration, addressing texture and protecting your skin.
