Kroger not coming to Stephenville, but city 'is actively recruiting’ new grocer.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here I am…

Over the past few days, Beneath the Surface News has received several messages asking if Kroger is coming to Stephenville.

I spoke with three local officials today who gave me one unanimous answer: No.

Bummer.

I, too, had hoped the rumor was true.

On a positive note, Jeff Sandford, executive director of the Stephenville Economic Development Authority, said the city is actively recruiting grocers "but there has been no significant movement yet."

 Stephenville Mayor Lonn Reisman said the same thing.

“We are actively looking to recruit a new grocer to the area and hope it happens soon,” he said.

“We are working to find the right fit.”

So, let's keep those fingers crossed.
