Judge Cashon grants attorneys representing family of drowning victim access to interview Splashville lifeguards, supervisors

Updated: 4 days ago

Judge Jason Cashon listens to arguments from attorneys representing the family of Colt Williams during Monday’s hearing.

District Court Judge Jason Cashon will allow the attorneys representing the family of Colt Williams, the four-year-old child who drowned at Splashville last year, to interview lifeguards on duty that day and their supervisors.

The ruling, however, comes with restrictions.

Attorneys can only interview each lifeguard for 30 minutes and it must not conflict with any school function.

Cashon is allowing one hour to interview their supervisors.

Monday’s hearing was relatively short with attorneys for the plaintiff stating that the depositions were necessary in order to determine whether the Williams family has a basis to file a lawsuit against the city for negligence.

Attorneys for the city argued against the interviews, claiming “governmental immunity.”

Colt Williams drowned at Splashville in June 2023 during a private birthday party.
