Filing has begun to fill the unexpired term for place 4 on the Stephenville ISD board of trustees following the recent resignation of Doug Young.
The board has called a special election to fill the open seat for May 2.
On Wednesday, Jason Smith reached out to Beneath the Surface News to announce that he has filed.
“Serving on the school board has been something I’ve thought about for some time, but the timing never seemed quite right,” Smith said.
“When this seat opened up, our family felt it was the right moment to step up and go for it.
“We’re fortunate to have a district that so many people are proud of, and I would be honored to work alongside parents, teachers and community members to keep building on that strong foundation while continuing to plan thoughtfully for the future.”
Smith has lived in Stephenville since 2005 and is a technology professional and adjunct instructor of computer information systems.
He has coached for SPARD and the Stephenville Soccer Association, is a volunteer of the Watch D.O.G.S. program at Central Elementary, chairs the annual Toys “Fore” Kids golf tournament and served on the committee that developed plans for the Art Briles Stadium.
He and his wife Maddie have two kids in the Stephenville ISD school system.
The deadline to file for a place on the ballot is 5 p.m. Monday, March 23.
