Hobby Lobby set to open in Stephenville’s Washington Commons on Valentine’s Day.

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

If your sweetheart likes to shop, I’ve got an idea for you.

Plan to take her (or him) for a stroll through Hobby Lobby on Valentine’s Day. That’s when the national retailer that specializes in arts and crafts and home decor will open its doors to the public for the first time.

I received an email from the company’s headquarters today stating that the store is set to open in “mid-February.”

But Jeff Sandford, executive director of the Stephenville Economic Development Authority, said the official opening date is set for Feb. 14.

“This will be a tremendous complement to the existing retail market and will help drive consumer spending in our area,” Sandford told Beneath the Surface News. “We are looking forward to the positive economic impact of the entire development.”

Hobby Lobby will be the first retailer to open in Washington Commons.

James Avery, Buckle, Old Navy, Ross, T.J. Maxx, Ulta Beauty, Five Below and Shoe Show will follow suit in the coming weeks and months as construction on the largest retail development project in the city’s history is complete.
