We are kicking off the weekend with a story about a black cat that lives at one of Stephenville’s most popular businesses: Dowell Ace Hardware.
Reader Lori Lesnett sent a picture of this cute cat to Beneath the Surface News as part of its all-new Good Stuff Fridays features.
“Dowell Ace Hardware has the cutest little black kitty on staff,” she wrote in an email. “It’s worth a trip to say hi!”
So, I did.
I stopped by Ace on Thursday and learned that about five years ago Liza Jane was adopted by owner Belle Dowell.
“I left the stock room door open one day and Liza Jane and her mother showed up,” Belle said.
Liza Jane liked her new surroundings so much that when her mother left, she stayed.
“One day I just reached in and picked her up,” Belle said. “She has grown from a kitten to a big girl.”
During the day, Liza Jane spends time in Belle’s office, but at night, she likes to roam the store.
Dowell’s employees love their little mascot and say she has a sweet personality.
