Filing period to run for Stephenville City Council gets underway. Here’s what we know.

Stephenville city councilman Justin Haschke filed for re-election Wednesday with city secretary Staci King.

Stephenville Mayor Doug Svien and city councilman Justin Haschke wasted no time on Wednesday filing for re-election.

The filing period for the May 7 election began Wednesday and ends Friday, Feb. 18.

Three others including Brady Pendleton, place 4, Alan Nix, place 6, and Brandon Huckabee, place 8, are up for another term.

Huckabee is not seeking re-election to the city council and is instead focusing on his campaign for Erath County judge.

Former city councilman Mark McClinton filed Wednesday to run for place 8.

Haschke, place 2, is seeking his second term.

“I am most proud of the work the council has done to keep Stephenville the city we love, while working to help bring in new businesses that share the same vision for our community, Haschke told Beneath the Surface News.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of tackling the $200 million infrastructure projects and working to keep the tax burden as low as possible.”

The last day to register to vote is Thursday, April 7.
