An Erath County teen accused of shooting his uncle, a toddler and another man in a domestic disturbance in June 2024 was sentenced to 24 years in prison in a plea agreement on Monday.

Diego Daniel Delacruz agreed to plead guilty to three counts of assault with a deadly weapon/family violence.

Standing next to his attorney Lukas Lawrence, Delacruz said “yes sir” when asked if he understood the agreement.

In exchange for a guilty plea, he was sentenced to 24 years, 20 years and 20 years on each of the counts, which are set to run concurrently.

Delacruz also waived his right to an appeal.

After the plea agreement, Delacruz was taken back to the Erath County Jail to await transfer to prison.

District Attorney Alan Nash called the case “heartbreaking.”

“It’s hard to see a young man like that begin adulthood incarcerated, but he’s too dangerous to be trusted in public,” Nash told Beneath the Surface News.
