Erath County gets 70 new cases of Covid-19; number of active cases double with 12 hospitalizations.

There have been 70 new cases of Covid-19 in Erath County in the past week, bringing the total number of active cases to 153 and 12 local hospitalizations.

“Our vaccination rate is very low with 30% of those eligible getting one dose and 26% fully immunized,” Stephenville’s health authority Dr. Kelly Doggett told Beneath the Surface News. “That’s contributing to the substantial rise in cases in Erath County and Texas as a whole.”

Dr. Doggett said the website gets its numbers from Texas DSHS and the Centers for Disease Control.

“Those still undecided should strongly consider getting immunized,” Doggett said. “There are a number of breakthrough cases in fully immunized people, but 99% of those are not winding up hospitalized or dying.”

Dr. Doggett also said the county’s positivity rate is 21%.

“But it’s even higher at my office,” he said.
