Erath County auditor in critical condition after being shot multiple times by son.

Erath County auditor Kent Reeves is reportedly in critical condition at a Fort Worth hospital after he was shot multiple times with an AR-15.

The alleged shooter is Kent Reeves' son, 22-year-old Garrett Reeves.

Sheriff Matt Coates said that a 9-1-1 call was made by Lora Reeves about 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

By the time deputies arrived at the scene, Garrett Reeves and his girlfriend had fled on foot.

After an intense search, they were both located about 11 a.m. Sunday morning at a house in Erath County.

Since Kent Reeves is an employee of the county, Sheriff Coates said the Texas Rangers will be handling the investigation.

A source told Beneath the Surface News that Lora Reeves, Kent Reeve’s wife, was sleeping upstairs when she heard gunshots.

It is unclear what prompted the shooting.

Kent Reeves is reportedly in ICU after a 12-hour surgery.

Garrett Reeves is being held at the Erath County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Bond has not yet been set.
