Elks Lodge hosting barbecue cook-off, car show Saturday to raise money for children and veterans.
The Stephenville Elks Lodge is hosting a summer event on Saturday to raise money for the Texas Elks Project.
Saturday’s fun will include a sanctioned barbecue cook-off, car show and dunk tank beginning at 10 a.m. at Dublin City Park.
James Dunbar is a member of the Elks Lodge and works as the transport officer for the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.
“The car show will benefit the club’s drug awareness program,” Dunbar told Beneath the Surface News. “Educating kids about the dangers of drugs is a passion of mine and we go into communities and schools to talk about it.”
The Texas Elks Project sends children with special needs to a camp in Gonzales, Texas for one week every year.
“The camp and the children’s medical needs for the week are at no cost to the families,” Dunbar said. “The kids participate in a variety of activities like swimming and crafts, and for a lot of these kids, it’s the first time they are away from their parents.”
The cost to enter the barbecue cook-off is $200 and $20 for the car show.
“We will also have several vendors out there and a dunk tank that will raise money for veterans,” Dunbar said.
