Dublin authorities reassure public after student was arrested with gun at football game.

The Dublin Police Department is crediting “vigilant community members” who notified Dublin ISD administrators that a juvenile was carrying a gun at the Dublin High School football game on Friday.

A press release about the incident states that “administrators immediately notified on-duty officers with the Dublin Police Department. Within seconds, officers and administrators located the juvenile, recovered the weapon and placed the juvenile under arrest.”

The student has been charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon in prohibited places, a second degree felony, and is being held in a juvenile detention center.

Dublin Police Chief Cameron Ray told Beneath the Surface News that the 14-year-old juvenile now faces expulsion from school.

"We are working with the ATF to trace where the firearm came from," Chief Ray said.

The case has been handed over to the Erath County Attorney's Office.

Investigators say they have found no evidence to suggest that the community, students or school were in any danger and that the incident appears to have been an isolated event.

“We want to reassure our community that there will continue to be a school resource officer on every Dublin ISD campus during regular school times,” the release states.

“We would like to thank vigilant community members for promptly coming forward and reporting their concerns. This incident serves as an important reminder: If you see something, say something.”
