CTFAC hosting free, multi-generational Family Funday; event will feature renowned quilt appraiser.

Special to BTS NEWS

The Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council is hosting a multi-generational “Family Funday” on Saturday, May 1, at its gallery located at 204 River North Boulevard.

The free event will include refreshments and creative art and crafts activities celebrating the national, traveling exhibit “Cloth as a Community” and “If Quilts Could Talk.”

The arts and crafts will take place from 1-3 p.m. and include colorful stamp painting, weaving yarn art, designing “no sew” patchwork canvas bags and more. The projects will make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts.

Guests will also have a chance to add their own unique design to the CTFAC’s community quilt by creating their own piece of patchwork to be sewn into the quilt, which will later become part of CTFAC’s permanent art collection.

The event will also feature renowned quilt appraiser Marcia Kaylakie of Austin who will be available from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for private quilt appraisals.

Each quilt will take a half an hour to appraise and will cost $65.

Marcia has been making, collecting and appraising quilts since 1988 and has appeared in numerous books, magazines, and newspapers over the years.

For more information or to schedule a private quilt appraisal, call CTFAC at 254-965-6190.
