The race is officially underway for Place 7 on the Stephenville City Council.

Brandon Greenhaw filed Tuesday at City Hall to run for the seat, which is also being sought by Justin Slawson.

Place 7 is currently held by Gerald Cook whose term limit is up in May.

Shortly after filing, I spoke with Greenhaw about his decision to run.

“I’ve lived in Stephenville my entire life and I want to do my part for the city,” Greenhaw told Beneath the Surface News. “My wife’s a teacher at the high school and we have two kids in school.”

Greenhaw owns Cactus Corner Convenience Store in Desdemona and served on the city’s Parks and Recreation Board for two years and is a current member of the Airport Advisory Board.

OTHER CITY RACES

Term limits are also forcing city councilman Ricky Thurman to step away from Place 5 this year.

Maddie Smith has filed to run for that spot, and so far, remains without a challenger.

Council members Lonn Reisman (Place 3) and LeAnn Durfey (Place 1) are also up for re-election and have already filed for another two-year term.

The deadline to file for a place on the May 6 ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17.

And if you want to vote, you need to be registered by Thursday, April 6.
