Brandon and Cindy Carrell and the team at BC Insurance bring service and value to clients.
Brandon and Cindy Carrell, owners of BC Insurance in Stephenville, are two of the nicest people you will ever meet.
They are friendly and family-oriented (they’ve raised five kids) and know their stuff when it comes to insurance.
I sat down with the couple at their newly-renovated office located on the South Loop in Stephenville to talk about the insurance agency they started in 2016.
Brandon called getting into the business “a fluke.”
“I graduated from Tarleton and was looking for something, so I answered an ad with an insurance company in Granbury,” Brandon said.
Unbeknownst to him, that fluke would lead him into a lengthy and fulfilling career, and after 15 years of working for another agency, the couple decided to venture out on their own.
“We took a big leap of faith in 2016,” Brandon said. “We rented a small office and started the business from scratch.
“Luckily, we had a lot of great customers who followed us.”
Brandon and Cindy worked alone in the office for the first three months, but business picked up quickly and soon they needed additional help.
The first person they hired was Ashley Smith (she is still with the company), and with an official team of three, BC Insurance was off and running.
Today, the company employs eight full-time licensed agents and one CSR that work in-house and four outside sales agents.
Here are a few more things you might not know about the company.
What unique services does BC Insurance offer that sets it apart from other agencies?
Cindy: “We have a big staff so we can take care of our clients quickly and efficiently and most of us have a background in agriculture.
“We sell a lot of farm and ranch policies, so that agricultural background is really helpful.”
Brandon: “We work with a lot of carriers, so instead of trying to cram a customer into one company, we find a company that fits the customer.”
BC Insurance offers coverage for farm and ranch, equine and livestock, commercial, home, auto and life.
And here’s an interesting tidbit: They once insured a camel and even quoted a monkey.
What does BC Insurance offer new clients?
Brandon: “We are going to do a couple of things. First, we are going to offer them service and find the carrier that will give them the best product at the best rate.
“We try to write with the best companies in the industry and only write quality policies.”
Cindy: “Insurance companies make a lot of changes to their rates and policies; it ebbs and flows with what’s happening in the world, and we have to stay on top of that.
“We spend a lot of time educating our customers on the need to update their coverage amounts to stay in line with today’s inflation. Brandon and I see ourselves and our team more as consultants rather than sales people.”
How does BC Insurance keep such a large group of dedicated employees?
Cindy: “Our customers mean a lot to us, but so does our team. Our goal is to provide an environment where people want to come to work; one that creates friendships and family, not just co-workers.
“We value our employees, appreciate them and want to empower and support them!”
