Brendan Jenkins

Bond for the man suspected in Saturday’s triple slaying of his girlfriend and her grandparents has been set at $3 million.

Brendan Jenkins, 22, has been charged with capital murder and is being held at the Comanche County Jail.

He is accused of shooting and killing 63-year-old Earl Stephens, 62-year-old Patricia Stephens and 18-year-old Ashyln Smith.

According to a family friend who asked not to be identified, Jenkins and Smith had been dating for six to seven months before the murders.

Smith had reportedly been living with her grandparents for two months.

What might have prompted Jenkins to kill his girlfriend and her grandparents is not clear.

The Comanche County Sheriff’s Office said Jenkins called 9-1-1 early Saturday morning from the Stephens’ home after the shooting.

He reportedly confessed and was taken into custody at the scene.

He has been charged with capital murder.
