An Erath County jury of seven men and five women were seated on Monday in the trial of Charles Austin Broyles, a suspect unofficially dubbed the “vigilante shooter.”

Broyles is being tried for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with shooting a registered sex offender in the face in December 2023.

He is being represented by Stephenville attorneys Ryan Taylor and Brady Pendleton.

According to the arrest affidavit, Broyles was targeting registered sex offenders living in Erath County, accessing the list of names and addresses from the public sex offender website.

If convicted, Broyles faces two to 20 years in prison.

Broyles, who is deaf, has a sign language interpreter who will facilitate the trial.

Yes, they do. And you are one of the sick people. A harasser who apparently isn't capable of leaving other people alone.

People who are listed on your glorious government Registry paid for whatever harassment they did. You harassers who support the Registry must be made to pay for your harassment. It's happening whether you like it or not, so that's good.

No, I mean when one of your family touches someone else, I hope you want your family member killed!

I'm sorry, 2-20 years for shooting someone? How can there be a minimum of 2 years, for such a crime?

So what. The victim probably did prison time. He was released. A vigilante shot him. He needs to do time for murder. But really, he needs the death sentence.
