The start of a new year is just around the corner, and with it comes an exciting new addition to Beneath the Surface News.

I am excited to announce that BTS News is expanding its social media presence with more weekly live videos on Facebook.

Beginning Jan. 7, Blessed Matai will go live with videos demonstrating self-defense techniques specifically designed for women and situational awareness strategies everyone can use.

He will go live at 11 a.m. on the first and third Friday of every month on the Beneath the Surface News Facebook page.

Blessed is a Tarleton State University police officer and owner of Makhuwa Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

He has been training in martial arts for more than 10 years and won gold (as a Purple Belt) at the IBJJF Master Worlds Jiujitsu Championship in 2018.

Today, Blessed is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and holds a certificate in sexual harassment and rape prevention.

He is also an instructor in defensive tactics.
