A little slice of ‘heaven.’ New upscale Mexican restaurant opening next summer in Stephenville.

Updated: Dec 2, 2023

A new restaurant featuring contemporary, upscale Mexican cuisine is slated to open in Stephenville next year.

Cielo, which means “heaven” in Spanish, will open in a now vacant building on Washington Street (across from Tarleton’s baseball fields).

“We will focus on ambiance and a creative Mexican dining experience,” owner Francisco Perez told Beneath the Surface News.

Francisco and his family own six restaurants in Texas, including Azteca in Stephenville, and are excited to take on the new project.

Francisco said Cielo will be a completely different dining experience than the one you’ll find at the family’s other restaurants.

“Cielo will offer authentic Mexican cuisine with unique seafood dishes and creative cocktails. All of our restaurants have scratch kitchens and our cooks must have a passion for food,” Francisco said.

“It’s hard to find a good mole in this area because the food has been Americanized. We take great pride in expressing our country – and that’s what we will do at Cielo.”

The new restaurant will have an intimate setting with a full bar and outdoor patio.

Francisco said the family hopes to open in summer 2024.

TXP Construction and Remodeling has been hired to transform the vacant building into the swanky restaurant.

Owner Toby O’Neal said the project will likely take several months to complete.

“I’m excited that my company is getting to be a part of this new venture,” Toby said.

And we’re excited that Stephenville will soon have another great place to dine!
