You can’t start a fire without a spark. And you can’t have a bonfire without brush.

Tarleton State University’s annual Homecoming celebration is still months away, but planning for its annual L.V. Risinger memorial bonfire has already begun.

One thing, however, is missing: Brush.

The drought plaguing Erath County isn’t helping matters, so Tarleton is asking the public for help.

If you plan to clear brush in the coming days and weeks, feel free to drop it by the Tarleton Ag Center from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, and Saturday, Aug. 20.

More than 200 hours will be spent stacking over 10,000 wooden pallets and brush to create the blaze, according to the university.

The bonfire is set for Friday, Oct. 28, capping a week of homecoming activities and leading to the Saturday football matchup with the University of the Incarnate Word.
