What to buy and where to celebrate with your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day. (And it’s all local.)

A-hem.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you don’t want to be caught empty-handed or without a nice place to take your sweetheart when the big day arrives on Feb. 14.

The holiday of love falls on a Monday this year so lots of celebrating will take place the prior weekend.

To ensure your celebration is a lovely one, I spoke with several local business owners who have given me some fantastic ideas that will earn you a few extra hearts during this season of love.

WHERE TO BUY FLOWERS

Scott’s Flowers on the Square: Co-owner James Kimbel told me that Scott’s has 2,000 roses ordered and a wide variety of other seasonal beauties that will make your sweetheart swoon.

He says placing your order early is key to ensuring you get exactly what you want.

“We expect to book up sooner than usual because Cupid is here on Monday,” he said.

WHERE TO DINE

Newton’s Cellar: Make a reservation for dinner at this downtown hotspot where you can enjoy a delicious steak, seafood and craft cocktails, beer and wine inside the inviting new bar and lounge called Newton’s Saddlerack.

The restaurant is usually closed on Mondays, but will be open on Valentine’s Day from 4-9 p.m. with live music by Holli Garet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. inside the bar.

Newton’s Saddlerack will also be open on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 13), but more on that later.

LOVELY GIFT IDEAS

Frames Etc: This downtown boutique has an eclectic selection of gift ideas like Simplified soaps and lotions and romantic candles.

But this time of year, owner Julie Lowrance specializes in something else: Gift baskets.

Think Wiseman House Chocolates, candy, popcorn, socks, jewelry and so much more.

“Our gift baskets are for women and men,” Julie said. “Tell us what you want to spend and we will get you fixed up.”

TOAST WITH A GLASS OF WINE

LUCKY VINES VINEYARD AND WINERY: If your Valentine’s Day includes a celebratory toast (and it should), you’re in luck.

This local vineyard is kicking off a three-day celebration Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 10-12, beginning with “Galentines.”

Grab your best girl gang and head to the tasting room from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and receive 30% off all wine (by the bottle or glass) and catch a special showing of “Wine Country” beginning at 5 p.m.

Pizza will be sold by the slice.

The fun will continue Friday and Saturday with a special package that includes Cordelia and chocolate covered strawberries from Wiseman House Chocolates.

There will also be live music featuring Holli Garet from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.

Secure a spot in the tasting room by making an online reservation or purchase an order to-go by clicking here.

CHEESE AND CHOCOLATE

Littlejohn Produce: Let the talented folks at Littlejohn Produce create a delicious basket full of chocolates, candy, cookies, cakes and fruit – all beautifully packaged and made to order just the way you want it.

Meat and cheese platters, charcuterie boards with added Valentine’s Day touches are also available.

If you can dream it, Sherri Littlejohn can make it. Give her a call at 254-842-4260.

Remember, shop local and love big.
