Stephenville voters have decided that Doug Svien should remain the city’s mayor after fending off a challenge by local attorney Brady Pendleton.

Svien won his re-election effort handily Saturday after receiving 1,001 votes to Pendleton’s 814.

“I appreciate the support of the citizens; two more years to go,” Svien said.

Meanwhile, David Baskett also won his bid for place 6 on the Stephenville City Council against Dean Parr, but the final results showed a very close race.

Baskett – 870 votes

Parr – 861 votes

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you! It means so much to me to have the support of the citizens of Stephenville to represent you to our city government. I want to hear from you! What are your concerns? What are your questions? I promise to work for you to get answers and to build upon the great foundation already laid by our current city council, Baskett said. “Thank you to my supporters, special thanks to my family and friends for walking every step of this campaign with me! I cannot wait to be sworn in as your City Councilman, Stephenville! Time to roll up my sleeves and get to work for you!”
