One of the most recognizable names in Stephenville has earned a new title.
Lonn Reisman on Tuesday was elected to become the city’s next mayor.
“I want to congratulate David (Baskett) for a well-run campaign and wish him the best. I am overwhelmed at the number of people who went to the polls to vote for me. Truly amazing!” Reisman said.
“I had a wonderful campaign team from all across our city and I look forward to working with every citizen to help make Stephenville better every day.”
“I look forward to working with city council members and hearing their voices. We have a great city council that cares deeply about this community.
“My door will always be open and I look forward to being your full-time mayor. God bless.”
Reisman, a current city councilman, ran for mayor against fellow councilman David Baskett.
He received 1,265 votes (66.30%) to Baskett’s 643 votes (33.70%).
Reisman spent 36 years at Tarleton State University as the men’s head basketball coach, vice president and athletic director.
He will be sworn in as mayor on Nov. 18.
“While tonight’s results weren’t what we hoped for, I remain incredibly proud of the campaign we ran and the conversations we shared with so many good people across Stephenville.
“This city is strong because of its citizens, its industries and its first responders who show up for us every day. That strength doesn’t depend on an election result; it’s the heartbeat of who we are as a community,” Baskett said Tuesday night.
“I want to thank everyone who supported our campaign and those who took the time to engage in the democratic process. Fiscal responsibility, support for our first responders and pride in our hometown will always matter to me, and I’ll continue working to make Stephenville the best it can be.
“This isn’t an ending, it’s a reminder of how much we all care about the place we call home.”
