State Representative Shelby Slawson backs Doug Svien’s re-election campaign for mayor.
A few years ago, my friend Doug Svien and I were walking the halls of the Texas legislature in pursuit of a remedy to an issue our hometown was facing.
He was the mayor, I was the economic development authority chair, and it wasn’t the first time we’d stormed those halls together (nor would it be the last).
We did not leave the building that day until we got to personally talk to the legislator we needed to help us. We don’t know “quit,” me or Doug. We’ve driven a lot of miles, worked thru hours of city/EDC/other meetings, and racked up gobs of cell phone minutes planning for a bright and prosperous future for Stephenville.
The last project we worked on together (with huge credit to the full city and SEDA teams!) was Washington Commons, where the new Hobby Lobby, Old Navy and Ulta are located.
It’s quite incredible to drive around town these days and see the fruits of years of labor and wins achieved by teams of folks swimming in the same direction.
What a time to live in Stephenville! I’m proud to call Doug a friend and grateful for his selfless, steadfast service as mayor of our hometown and he has my full support for re-election.
Shelby Slawson,
State Representative District 59
