Selden firefighter, rancher and all-around handyman Warren Hoelscher named February’s Hometown Hero.

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

Area firefighter Warren Hoelscher grew up in Stephenville and says the best thing about working and living in Erath County is the people.

“I can’t go anywhere without running into somebody I know and there is always a smile on their face,” he said.

Today, he is a firefighter in Selden, farmer and handyman – and now he can add his name to the list of hometown heroes, an award bestowed on him by Farmers insurance agent Leslie Walker.

“I like helping others,” Warren said. “With the fire service, sometimes it’s the worst day of their life and I can be there to comfort them.

“The handyman work I do pays the bills, but people seem pretty happy when their toilets flush and doors close.”

In his spare time, which isn’t much, Warren says he likes to make metal art.

He has one daughter Krista.

Along with the honor naming Warren as February’s Hometown Hero, he received a gift basket, gift certificate and treats for his co-workers.
