Those who know Courtney Patton admire her voice, mad songwriting skills and bubbly personality.

But I know a different side of Courtney; she is my sister-in-law.

Technically, she is now the ex-wife of The Husband’s brother Jake, but we will always be family.

Courtney is also the mother of my niece and nephew and one of the most giving human beings I have ever met, which is why I wasn’t the least bit surprised to learn that she held a virtual concert on Tuesday to raise money for the Erath County Firefighters Association.

“When the Carbon, Ranger, Eastland and Bluff Dale fires were ravaging our neighbors’ land, I was so proud my kids were out helping with their dad and stepmom,” Courtney said. “I don’t own heavy equipment or trucks or trailers, but I do have a voice and the best fans in the world so I thought I might hop online and play a show for tips and donate the money to the Erath County Firefighters Association.

“I was completely blown away by the generosity and ended up with just under $8,000 in 24 hours!”

All money donated to the Erath County Firefighters Association will be divided among area fire departments.

Dallas B. Sims is the president of the organization and is currently out battling wildfires in the Hill Country.

Courtney plans to make a check presentation to the department next week.
