Flags to fly at half-staff as Erath County remembers longtime commissioner Jim Buck.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has given an order to Erath County to fly all flags at half-staff in honor of Erath County Commissioner Jim Buck who was found deceased inside his home on Thursday morning.
Buck, a well-respected, longtime commissioner of precinct 4, was 70.
In a post to Facebook, Erath County Judge Brandon Huckabee called Jim “a friend, a good man, and someone who cared deeply about Erath County and the people he represented.”
“I am thankful for the time I had working alongside him, for the conversations we shared, and for the commitment he brought to serving this county and his precinct,” Huckabee wrote.
“And yes, him always being ready to ‘pay the bills.’”
Buck was running unopposed for re-election in November and his name will appear on the ballot.
It is not clear how the county will proceed with filling the loss.
Buck's funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Cowboy Church of Erath County,
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Stephenville Funeral Home.
On a personal note, Jim was our commissioner.
I can’t tell you how many times he would drive by on my morning walks and stop to chat.
He was funny, kind and a tremendous commissioner.
He will be missed.
