Erath County is mourning the unexpected passing of 21-year-old Andrew Dean, an EMT and firefighter with Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue.

Dean was injured in a motorcycle accident on Monday evening on Lingleville Road.

Although he was airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

ECVFR Coordinator Chris Brooks and other fellow firefighters have held vigil at the hospital since the accident.

Dean reportedly died following complications during surgery.

“We are all shocked and devastated,” Brooks said shortly after Dean’s passing.

I also think about how important it is to appreciate people while they are here. I often get caught up in daily routines—even something as simple as spending time playing the EaglerCraft —but moments like this make me pause and reflect on what truly matters.
