The Erath County United Way has renamed its “Live United” scholarship after the late Darrell Brown.
Brown was the director of administrative services for the city of Stephenville when he passed away on Jan. 11.
He was only 60 years old.
An ECUW Facebook post from board president David Perez states, “I am honored to share that our board has approved renaming our scholarship the Darrell W. Brown Live United Scholarship, in memory of Darrell W. Brown.
“We chose to include Live United in the name because that is what Darrell truly believed in - bringing people together, caring for others and living out his values through action.
“Darrell believed in doing good work and in doing it for the right reasons. This scholarship will honor students who reflect those same values—character, service, and a desire to grow.
“Naming this scholarship after Darrell is a small way to ensure his influence continues to shape lives for years to come."
Every year, ECUW grants four $500 scholarships to Erath County students.
Scholarship recipients must have 20 volunteer hours with the organization.
Past scholarship winners include:
2024 - Andie Stephens, Elizabeth Divin, Creece Brister and Benjamin Wood
2023 - Shelby Thomes
2022 - Veronica Nicole Rodriquez, Hunter Merrill and Maci Underwood
2021 - Justin Burnes, Tyler Heller, Peyton Skinner, Grayson Traweek and Samual Yankie
2020 - Allee Mainord, Denton Heller, and Madison Burton, SISD
