Days of playing football pay off for Stephenville police officer who nabbed man on the run.

Mickle Lowery is a man on the run no more.

And they say playing football never pays off.

Tell that to Stephenville Police Officer Colby Stone who captured a man who had been on the run since Friday.

Mickle Lowery is accused of failing to comply as a registered sex offender, and when authorities tried to take him into custody last week, he managed to get away - five times.

Lowery’s luck ran out Tuesday when Officer Stone and K9 Officer Rollo caught up with the suspect on North Columbia Street in Stephenville.

“We had been pounding the pavement looking for him along with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office since Friday,” Captain James Gresham told Beneath the Surface News. “He ran from Officer Stone, but Stone played defense for the Stephenville Yellow Jackets and apparently knows how to catch someone.”

Lowery has a lengthy rap sheet dating back to 2002 when he was arrested by the Dublin Police Department for simple assault/family violence.

He was arrested for assault again in 2003 and 2006, sexual assault in 2010 and for evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in 2021.

This time around he has been charged with failing to comply as a sex offender and evading arrest.

“When you run from Officer Stone, you just go to jail tired,” Gresham said.
