Cowboy Capital of the World Pro Rodeo kicks off with this week-long schedule of events.


The Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo is set to take place Sept. 22, 23 and 24 at Erath County’s new Fair Grounds Arena, but first there’s Rodeo Heritage Week.


This slate of exciting events begins with the Miss Cowboy Capital Rodeo Queen Contest - Horsemanship at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, at Park Your Pony Arena.

Here’s a look at what else is happening:

Saturday, Sept. 16


• 10 a.m. – Cowboy Capital County Team Roping


• 1 p.m. - Miss Cowboy Capital Rodeo Queen Contest at Erath County Cowboy Church


• 3 p.m. – Registration opens for Mutton Bustin’ & Dummy Roping


• 4 p.m. – Dummy Roping Contest


• 5 p.m. – McCoy’s Mutton Bustin’

Sunday, Sept. 17


• 9 a.m.- Stephenville Shoot Out Team Roping


Monday, Sept. 18


· 4-7 p.m. – Art of the Cowgirl: The Fashion, Art & Attitude art exhibit at CTFAC gallery


Tuesday, Sept. 19


• 7 p.m. – The Show at The Fairgrounds Arena (advance tickets required)

Thursday, Sept. 21


• 9 a.m. – PRCA Steer Roping Slack at The Fairgrounds Arena


• 6 p.m. – WPRA Barrel Racing Slack at The Fairgrounds Arena

Friday, Sept. 22


• 9 a.m. – PRCA Timed Event Slack at The Fairgrounds Arena


• 7 p.m. – PRCA Rodeo Performance #1, “American Patriot Night – Honoring all those who serve!”

Saturday, Sept. 23


• 7:30 a.m. – Cowboy Capital 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run, Stephenville City Park


• 10 a.m. – Rodeo Heritage Parade at the downtown square

(Route begins at Stephenville City Park, then travels up and around courthouse square and back to City Park.)

• 7 p.m. – PRCA Rodeo Performance #2, “It’s Gonna Get Western Night”

• 9 p.m. – Dancin’ in the Dirt Live Music Concert with Jake Hooker & The Outsiders at The Fairgrounds Arena (free admission with rodeo ticket)

Sunday, Sept. 24


• 2 p.m. – PRCA Rodeo Performance #3, “Sunday Showdown.”

You can purchase tickets to the rodeo at Bradberry’s Best, Capital Hatters, Chick Elms Rodeo Shop & Grand Entry Western Wear, Saddle Rags the Western Store and the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce.

Advance tickets for adults are $12 ($15 at the door), kids ages 6-12 are $8 ($10 at the door) and children five and younger are admitted for free.
