Challenger unseats Stephenville city councilman; Nix makes a return. Cook wins race for school board.
Big early voting numbers set the pace for Saturday’s elections in Erath County.
Dean Parr unseated incumbent Bob Newby in the race for place 4 on the Stephenville City Council after getting 456 votes to Newby’s 272.
Parr said he is excited about the win and looking forward to giving back to his hometown.
Former city councilman Alan Nix was elected to place 8 with 507 votes while challenger Tina Virgin received 209 votes.
In the only contested race for school board, Dr. Rita Cook was elected to place 2 with 472 votes while Rick Gann received 305 and Magan Estill received 348.
"I want to thank everyone who took the time to vote and support me in this election," Cook told Beneath the Surface News. "Your support is greatly appreciated.
"My goal as a board member now is to focus on teaching, learning and transparency in our district.
"We have much to be proud of in our school district and I want to work with the board to celebrate our successes, to showcase our successes, and to grow even more successful in the future.
"Stephenville is a great community, and I am honored to have this opportunity to serve on the school board."
Estill was gracious in the face of her loss to Cook on Saturday, saying, "Congrats to a woman who has dedicated her life to education. Job well done."
