Ceremony to officially dedicate fire station to former chief Jimmy Chew happens this week.

Stephenville’s Fire Station No. 2 already has his name on it, but the Jimmy D. Chew Fire Station will become official during a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3.

The Stephenville City Council voted to rename the fire station after Chew when he retired last year after serving the city for more than 50 years.

“I feel very humbled and appreciative; it’s an honor,” Chew said about the dedication.

When asked about retirement, Chew said it’s going “so far, so good.”

“During the first couple of months I felt like I was on vacation, then one morning I woke up and thought, ‘being on vacation every day is not a bad thing,’” he said.

Nor is having a fire station named after you.

Congrats Jimmy.
